Social Distancing, But Make It Fashion

With everything going on in the world, most of us are quarantined to some extent. This means that some of us will be stuck at home for a period of time. Being stuck at home can be a good thing, because it can be the time that we can relax or catch up on things we never had the time for. With that being said, when I’m at home, I don’t get all dressed up or feel the most glamorous. This is fine, but I’ve noticed I am not as motivated or productive when I don’t feel good about myself. So I have come up with my list of my favorite cozy outfits that still allow me to look good, while still being cozy at home.

Even though some people may consider this post to be silly or unimportant, it’s important for me to look and feel good during these hard times. We all do what we need to do during difficult situations, and this is how I deal with it.

I think we can all agree that physically going into a store or a shopping mall doesn’t sound like the best idea right now, so I am even more thankful than normal for having online shopping. Online shopping can sometimes be stressful for people, but most websites make it super easy to complete the shopping process. In addition to that, most places offer free shipping or online discounts which make it even more beneficial to shop online.

My Go-To Looks

  • Graphic Tee
  • Oversized Tee
  • Crop-Top/Cropped Hoodie
  • Hoodie/Sweatshirt

Graphic Tee

Wearing a graphic tee is a great way to stay cozy as well as looking put together. I have multiple graphic tees from bands, brands, or events that I have attended. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy, just as long as it is comfortable. Most people think that wearing a tee shirt makes you lazy or sluggish, but many people wear a graphic tee and style it to make it look like a well thought out outfit. You can do this as well from your home.

Oversized Tee

Oversized tees are the perfect way to really be cozy. Over the years, I have collected many oversized shirts from either my brothers or my dad. None of them are by any means cute or girly, but pair it with cute fuzzy socks, you have a complete cute and cozy outfit. If you really want to step up your oversized tee game, throw on a jean jacket to make it an edgy yet cute look.

Crop-Top/Cropped Hoodie

Crop-tops may not be everyone’s favorite thing to wear, but when I pair it with the right pants, it can be a super cute and trendy outfit. I personally love wearing crop-tops or cropped hoodies because it allows me to still wear a tee shirt or a basic hoodie, but I don’t feel as lazy or sluggish doing it. When I pair it with some high waisted pants or joggers, the outfit turns into something a little more put together. I also love wearing this combination of a crop-top and high waisted pants, because it makes me more aware of my posture. When I wear a crop-top I don’t want to have bad posture, because it is more visible. I am more mindful or sitting up straight and not slugging my shoulders, which makes me feel better overall.

Hoodie/Sweatshirt

Lastly wearing a hoodie or a sweatshirt is always a good go-to for when you want to be comfy. Wearing a sweatshirt is easy to do because of how comfortable it is, but for me sometimes it can be too comfortable. When I wear sweatshirts I sometimes lose that sense of feeling good about how I look. A way I fix that problem is by putting a little more effort into another part of my outfit. I usually take the time to put my hair in a cute pony tail and put on my favorite earrings. These simple actions of putting a little effort into another part of your look can make a big difference in how you feel about yourself.

Conclusion

Overall all of these options are perfect for being cozy while still looking put together. Obviously there are other options to wear for being cozy, but these are just some of my go-to options. Any of these options can be dressed up or down to fit your personal preference. Any of these options can be styled with a jean jacket to make it look a little edgy or paired with your favorite pair of fuzzy socks to add extra comfort.

Another trick I do to still “feel good about myself” is take more time to do my hair or makeup. Just because we are working from home doesn’t mean we have to let ourselves go. We all should still wake up, do our normal routines, and be productive with our days. This is a difficult time for all of us and focusing on the things we can control is so important.

When you look good, you feel good. Confidence with what you’re wearing is very important. If you feel good, you will always perform your best without worrying about anything.

My Current Favorite Fashion & Beauty Bloggers

Emily Herren @champagneandchanel.com

Currently my favorite fashion and beauty blogger is Emily Herren. Emily is a recent college graduate, chasing her dreams in the fashion world. She was born and raised in Katy, TX (a suburb of Houston). She moved to College Station in 2012 to attend Texas A&M University. After graduation, she moved back to Houston.

Emily started blogging because fashion, hair, and makeup were not celebrated in her household growing up. She was often asked “Why are you so dressed up?” and “Why do you have so much makeup on?” Despite this, she continued to develop her love for fashion, while embracing herself as an outcast. Emily believes that fashion is the perfect outlet to provide that boost of confidence to look and feel your best. Creating her blog, Champagne and Chanel, created a place for herself to be 100% herself and to celebrate what fashion can do for people.

I specifically love Emily and her blog because of the content she posts. She posts a good variety of content. She mainly posts about fashion. For the most part, she posts about what she’s wearing and how you can shop her look, or an affordable look-alike.

She also posts a good amount of beauty content. I connect with her on this aspect because the makeup/skincare products she uses are products that I use as well, or are products that would be good for me to use. For example, she recommended using a new TULA moisturizer because she has really dry skin. I also have really dry skin, so I started using it, and I LOVE it! She also posts how to style short blonde hair, which is perfect for me because I have short blonde hair.

Alexa Anglin @latelywithlex.com

My next favorite blogger is Alexa Anglin. Alexa was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. She attended the University of Tennessee Knoxville and is currently working in healthcare. She is married and has a newborn baby named Gray.

Alexa has always loved fashion. She tends to stick with neutrals-black, cream, gray, camel, etc. She is constantly trying to incorporate color into her life. She also is always trying to find good sales and deals for her followers. Other than fashion, Alexa loves to cook and travel.

Alexa mainly posts about cute, girly fashion trends. I love to go to her blog to shop the clothes she posts about because I love all things girly. I also love to go to her for fashion advice because she is shorter and more petite, like me. So I know that if a clothing item fits her, that it will probably fit me too. This doesn’t sound like such a big deal, but being 5’2 makes it harder than you think to find clothes that actually fit.

Courtney Shields @courtneyshields.com

My next favorite blogger is Courtney Shields. Courtney developed her blog because she wanted a place to share her tips and tricks, the things she loves, and her everyday life, in the hopes of helping women feel more confident in their skin.

Courtney likes to write her content like she’s talking to a girlfriend she’s known for years: a little sassy and always real. Her goal for her site is to be a daily destination for a morning read, a place to go to for all the best tips and of course plenty of inspiration in the most attainable and approachable way. She wants people to feel like she is their bestie or big sis that always tells it like it is.

I love going on Courtney’s blog because she ALWAYS tells it how it is. She mainly talks about skincare/makeup products and she always gives her honest opinion about them. This is so important because not all products are good, in my opinion. I have tested out so many different skincare/beauty products to find the right ones for me. This process of buying and testing out products can be frustrating when you can never find a product you love. Courtney makes sure to always tell how she really feels about products, so her viewers do not waste their money on them. Of course, not everyone likes the same products, but having someone give their honest opinion about something, makes buying new products a lot easier.

Hollie woodward @hollieelizabeth.com

My next favorite blogger is Hollie Woodward. Hollie is originally from Shreveport, Louisiana but moved with her family to a small town just south of Indianapolis, IN when she was young. She met her husband Derek while she was attending college at Utah Valley University in Orem, UT. About a year after they started dating, they got married in Salt Lake City Temple. After living in Utah for about two years, they decided to move back to the Midwest. She currently lives in Indianapolis with her husband and three daughters. Her family means everything to her and she loves being a mom. Each day is a crazy ride for her, but she wouldn’t change it for the world.

From the time Hollie was young, she was always passionate about fashion and beauty. She’s always has a love for clothes, makeup, hair, etc. That passion continues through her blog. She continues to talk about her daily fashion and beauty items.

One thing I love about Hollie is that she shows a lot of “real” content. She lives a busy life being a mom, so she doesn’t always wear the most “glamorous” outfits, and that’s okay! There’s days that she’s in sweatpants and a hoodie, and she rocks it. Not pretending she’s something that she’s not, is something I really look up to her for.

Katy Roach @livingmybeststyle.com

Last but not least, my next favorite blogger is Katy Roach. Katy is married with a newborn baby named Cooper. She also has two dogs, June and Emmy. Katy and her husband have moved all over the United States, but are currently building their forever home right outside of Seattle, WA. Her husband Jake, is former military, turned firefighter.

Katy went to college for respiratory therapy, and ended up blogging instead. There is nothing she loves more than making the everyday girl feel like she can feel confident in what she wears without breaking the bank. Aside from fashion, she loves all things home decor and cooking.

I love following Katy’s blog because she focuses her content around sales/discounts. She always makes sure the content that she posts about it is affordable or at a reasonable price. This is something not every blogger does and it makes such a difference. I have purchased so many items that she recommends because of how much they were on sale or how affordable. Even though she posts about “cheaper” products, doesn’t mean that they are not good quality. Along with being affordable, the things she posts about are always such good quality.

Overall, all of these bloggers provide useful information on their blogs and always do their best to supply content that their viewers want. Even though they are all fashion and beauty bloggers, each blogger is unique in what they post. Whether it’s focusing on skincare or posting about good sales, each blogger posts information that is engaging and useful. If you are currently looking for fashion and beauty bloggers to follow or are just interested in fashion and beauty, I strongly recommend following some of these bloggers. You won’t regret it!

Social Media and Beauty Companies: Better Together

Like any other product, beauty products utilize social media to market itself. Everyday millions of consumers go on social media to follow and shop their favorite brands/companies. These companies create posts and campaigns to attract and keep loyal customers. Obviously there are brands that are doing a better job at this than others, but why?

Top Beauty Brand on Social Media

According to Allure Magazine’s 2019 Best of Beauty Award list, the top beauty brand on social media is Glossier. Glossier is a company that promotes the image of ones “real beauty”. They provide skincare, makeup, body care, and fragrance. On their social media, they advertise the important idea that beauty is about having fun, wherever you are in your journey. They are thoughtful about their products and how they advertise them.

What Makes Glossier the Best?

Glossier consistently ranked in the top 10 on multiple social media platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. On these social media platforms, Glossier is showing their followers interesting pictures of their products, funny memes, and posting about store openings. With all of that being said, they are still doing something to make them the best. They are giving their followers what they truly want; more access to Glossier products.

Instagram’s Top Beauty Brands

According to engagement rates, Instagram has become the top social media platform for beauty products. This platform makes it easy for companies to advertise their products with their very visual posting methods, engaging stories, and easy to use shopping features.

In 2019, Huda Beauty has ranked #1 on instagram. With 4.2 posts per week, 6.0% engagement rate, and 89,858 engagement per post, it is easy to see why they are ranked #1. Glossier is ranked second, Milk Makeup is ranked third, and Fenty Beauty is ranked fourth.

Instagram’s engagement rates are 17 times higher than Facebook and Twitter. Instagram also, on average, posts more than Facebook and Twitter combined. Even though Instagram has more posts than other channels, that doesn’t guarantee engagement. Companies on Instagram have strategies to get engagement on their posts.

Top Strategy

The top strategy companies use to get engagement is by having contests and giveaways. This strategy encourages followers to engage with the companies posts instead of just scrolling past it. According to Instagram, seven out of the top ten beauty posts were contests or giveaways.

Contests can have a serious positive impact on your brand, while not having to do that much work. This can mean giving away new products, box sets, or even travel experiences in exchange for likes, follows, story reshares, and tagging friends.

This strategy works because it asks for action from the viewer. This small amount of effort the viewer puts into sharing or liking something can go a long way in improving the companies social media engagement. This strategy also works because it requires the viewers to check back on the post(s) again and again to see if they have won or not. This increases the number of impressions on the post.

Bottom Line

Overall, social media sites are utilized by beauty companies for a number of reasons. Their main purpose for being on these sites is for their viewers, or customers. They do this by using tons of different strategies, like contests or giveaways, to create engagement on their content. We as consumers can utilize this and take part in their contests or giveaways. By engaging in these posts, we have the opportunity to receive something from that company, and who doesn’t like free stuff?

How Social Media Is Reshaping the Beauty Industry

The beauty industry has always been a very competitive and fast changing industry. With the amount of social media we have access to now, it makes it so easy for companies to market their products. Companies can use social media sites like Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, and many more to advertise their products.

Beauty Product Branding Made Easy

Beauty companies are now marketing their products easier than ever. With social media being so relevant, it is especially easy for beauty companies to utilize that and all the features social media brings with it. There are a couple of marketing trends that these companies are using to give themselves a competitive edge.

Influencer Marketing

Shopping for beauty products is no longer the same as it used to be. This means that the old advertisements that used to work, don’t work as well as they used to.

To supplement that, brands are working together with influencers to better interact with their customers. Consumers who use social media, look up to influencers and value their opinion. Influencers gain these loyal followers based on their brand and content that they post. When influencers use and review products, it motivates their viewers to go out and buy that product.

Digital Experience

With today’s technology, it’s no longer just about the product itself, but the experience as a whole. With social media growing and changing so quickly, it is effecting how consumers are buying products. Social media provides a place for people to talk about products that they like and don’t like.

Consumers on social media are coming together to discuss brands that worth buying. This creates a focus and loyalty for certain brands. Whether consumers are on Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, the beauty community is taking over. According to a survey done by Facebook in 2019, 80% use Instagram to decide whether to buy a product or service and 87% of users said that they took action after seeing product information on Instagram.

Conclusion

A major goal in marketing is to spot certain trends in the market and utilize them to help the company. To do this, one must fully understand the market itself and the consumers. You can do this by listening to the digital community and see what they have to say about your products. Once you understand what they want and you know how to properly achieve that, you can successfully brand your company.
